Something that makes me happy is . . . when someone gets my jokes.
Actually, I have a story about that from this week. One of the guys in my ward is supposed to send me the names of the people saying the prayers every week so that I can put them into the program. He often forgets, so the past couple weeks I've sent him reminder emails. Friday I sent him one saying "I need your prayers." I couldn't tell from his reply email whether he got the joke or not, but he mentioned it when I was talking to him after church today, and I was relieved that he had gotten it after all.

Bob's Message
Sunday Bob called to leave me a rhyming message. This is it:
To Rosie, my sister, Bob is my name,This message, for going above and beyond, was awarded 100 points.
A Christmas ago we got you a game.
The game was missing some important elements;
The cards with the characters have a lot of relevance.
For a game where a story must be told
Without any characters soon gets old.
Deck "C" was gone, Deck "B" had been doubled;
The packing job had clearly been bungled.
A new deck they promise your way to send
When your address they get to make their amends.
Your address we have, unless you've moved between,
We'll tell them to mail it to apartment 14.*
Area code, prefix, three numbers then one,**
Get back to us soon, or the deed will be done.
Some messages rhyme, but no one knows why.
See you later, love you, and now it's good-bye.
*Line changed slightly.
**Not the original line. Bob suggested this change for the blog.

Leave a Message
For those of you who haven't heard my answering-machine greeting, composed by Russell, it says this:
Hi! You've reached [my apartment]. You get one point if you leave a message, five points if you leave your name and number, and fifty points if your message rhymes. Thank you!I confess that in the two-and-a-half years that I've had this greeting, I have not kept accurate scores—although I did keep all the rhyming messages. However, when I got back from Christmas break this year, I was saddened to find that somehow all the messages on my machine had been erased. This makes scoring complicated.
So, I've decided to start the scoring over with the new year. I'll keep the points listed on my blog, and I'll post any rhyming messages for everyone else to enjoy with me. I'll give a special Christmas present to the winner at the end of the year. Thanks for calling!

A Ralph Waldo Emerson Quote
Never lose an opportunity of seeing something beautiful, for beauty is God's handwriting.

Hello World!
I have finally decided to start a blog. I'll do my best not to be too boring. Still, no promises.
