Old Movies

How do I find thee un-PC? Let me count the ways. . . .

  1. I was going to comment, but then I thought that maybe it wouldn't be very dignified and I should probably go sew buttons or something instead.

Then I decided to comment anyone, even if that means I'm not as dignified as Don Lockwood or Hrithik Roshan.

  2. Well, you and I are both somehow involved in writing or publishing anyway, so we're pretty much automatically undignified.

My favorite thing about this clip is that she thinks an "intelligent woman" ought to be doing something to benefit the community rather than simply sewing on buttons. And she'll benefit the community by . . . letting all the women know what other women are wearing!

Of course, I feel a bit bad about making fun of her, because she was probably written by male screenwriters, who seem to have thought that there was no such thing as an intelligent woman.

On the other hand, it does all make me laugh. That's probably mostly because it's old, though. I don't think I'd think it were as funny if it were released now.

  3. Yeah, her dialogue about her work definitely struck me as being written by a misogynistic man.
